Our client is a reputable bank in Yangon. They are looking for a foreign lawyer with experience in Myanmar banking-related works to join them as Head of Legal.

- Managing the Legal Department of the Bank, including supervising, instructing and monitoring the performance of all other members of the Legal Department, and supervising various processes undertaken by members of the Legal Department, including online and physical contract management and storage, and litigation.

- Advising all business divisions of the Bank on legal issues, including providing advice on all applicable laws, rules and regulations that apply to the banking sector and to other relevant sectors

- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents in relation to the Bank's day to day operations and activities, including finance and security documents, commercial contracts and non-disclosure agreements

- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents relevant to the Bank's own internal operations, including services contracts and partnership agreements

- Assisting in developing standard agreements and customer-facing terms and conditions for new activities and products

- Performing stakeholder management

- Conducting legal research

- Assisting in preparing procedures and policies for the Bank as and when required

- Liaising with and building relationships with all levels of the business

- Performing any other responsibilities as assigned.
1. Knowledge and Skills

- Understanding of or exposure to the legal environment in Myanmar and/or the Myanmar Banking Sector would be favorably regarded.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively manage a small to medium sized team of lawyers and to deal with a wide range of people both internally and externally.

- Proactive, self-motivated and highly organized.

- Excellent under pressure and able to adapt quickly in an evolving legal environment.

- Good knowledge of Myanmar laws and regulations.

- Whilst a background in finance is not strictly necessary, a willingness to take on new challenges is required.

2. Education & Special Training

- Qualified lawyer with a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from a foreign accredited university

3, Experience

- Prior legal experience (post-qualification) from one or more law firms and/or in-house for one or more reputable commercial businesses.

- At least 8-10 years Post Qualification Experience (PQE)

4. Languages

- Fluency in English, including excellent written and verbal communication and an ability to draft to a high standard a wide range of legal documents.
