Philip Morris (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is an affiliate of Philip Morris International (PMI) and has approximately 500 employees in Malaysia today. In 1968, PMI entered the Malaysian market with the sale and distribution of the Marlboro cigarette brand. Since then, the portfolio has expanded to include L&M, Chesterfield and Sampoerna A. PMM also operates a cast leaf plant in Seremban. This 100% export facility is PMI's largest globally.
In 2016, PMI announced the decision to build its future on smoke-free products that are a much better choice than cigarette smoking. In Malaysia, the first of these products, a tobacco heating system, is already available, as well as in many markets around the world under the IQOS brand.

We are looking to hire a best-in-class Counsel to provide legal advisory and business partnering function for the operations of Philip Morris Malaysia (and such other markets as may be added from time to time), including advising on management and mitigation of risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, supporting in contract negotiations and review, handling corporate governance matters, and monitoring of relevant legislative and regulatory developments.
This position works with the Management and all business functions and working groups of the company, while reporting to Senior Counsel, to reach business objectives in a manner consistent with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Key responsibilities:
� Provide business partners with timely legal analysis and advice on all legal related matters, including corporate governance and compliance issues. To ensure the provision of optimal legal support through both internal and external resources.
� Participate in business meetings and projects to ensure general compliance with the law and company policies, and that the legal interest of the company is protected.
� Knowledgeable with respect to current and pending legislation, new legal development and guidelines relevant to the industry and business, and advise business accordingly.
� Provide training on legal issues to employees as needed.
� Participate on project teams, ensuring that their decisions and recommendations protect the legal interests of the company, and execute decisions to achieve objectives on a timely basis.
� To assist business partners with preparation and negotiation of agreements, review of contracts and documents.
� To support Senior Counsel in the implementation of departmental plans and objectives, to deliver trainings to clients and third party agencies, handle company secretarial related manners, ensure work quality of outside counsel and monitor their working budget.
Requirements
� Demonstrates breadth and depth of local law expertise in developing legal assessments and defense briefs on regulatory and commercial activities, employing credible creative arguments in Malaysia law that enable the company to achieve business objectives
� Demonstrates proficiency in dealing with different aspects of risks operating in a multinational working environment, and the ability to use that knowledge and experience effectively to engage and influence stakeholders (internally and externally) showing sensitivity to, and understanding of, their differing needs and objectives.
� Demonstrates strong communication, engagement and business partnering skills.
� Demonstrates the ability to work sensitively, and effectively, within and across diverse teams.
� Demonstrates authentic ambition, sense of urgency, agility and tenacity and a genuine commitment to revolutionising the tobacco industry.
� At least 8 years professional qualified experience
� Holds a Degree in Law and is admitted to the Malaysia Bar
